I started Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at 18 in Sherwood Park on a whim and with no real idea of what I was getting into—just inspired by watching Royce Gracie overcome bigger, more athletic opponents through pure grappling. What began as curiosity quickly became an obsession throughout my university years and beyond. After a couple of injuries and surgeries, I nearly walked away from the sport. But through the support of my best friend Timmy, that passion was reignited. Jiu Jitsu teaches me to stay calm in uncomfortable positions, to think clearly when exhausted, and to push through difficult problems—lessons that carry far beyond the mats and into everyday life.
